Good on Foot on Hot Days

No question – we love the summer. But unfortunately, the most beautiful time of the year also has its side effects: long car rides, constant sitting or standing in the heat make our feet swell painfully. With a little wellness from the tap at home and the right care, however, this shortcoming can be quickly remedied. Even Pastor Kneipp knew about the healing effects of water. In the treatment of swollen legs and feet, this element can be used particularly effectively.

Why does water help with swollen legs?

Doctors explain the beneficial effect by the fact that cool water applications exert stimuli on the skin. Minute nerve points transmit these to the central nervous system. Thus among other things the cycle is stabilized and the immune system strengthened. In addition, such baths increase blood circulation in the feet and legs and thus counteract vein weakness.

Cold water for tired feet

If your shoe pinches after a long and hot day at work, one of the best and quickest helps comes directly from the tap. Knee casts, treading water and “Kneipp stockings” are particularly tried and tested:

  • With the knee cast, legs and feet are briefly showered with cold water up to about a hand’s width above the knees. Important: Do not forget the soles of the feet!
  • For a refreshing water treading the bathtub is filled about knee-high with cold water and stepped in it on the spot. Do not dry the feet afterwards, but only wipe off the water – this strengthens the effect.
  • Cool Kneipp stockings are especially good for getting your dilated veins to contract and refresh themselves after you get home: Hold cotton knee socks under cold water, wring them out and put them on for 5 minutes. While doing this, put your legs up.

Who shies away from cold water, can alternatively resort to lukewarm foot baths with appropriate bath additives. Particularly invigorating are sea salt-based preparations.

Nourishing freshness

After the bath, heavily stressed feet should be pampered with a special foot cream. Ideal are products that have both a caring and deodorizing effect and provide soothing moisture to rough, dry skin. If the troubled feet still need an extra freshness kick, the use of a foot gel is recommended. The advantage: It is absorbed quickly and without leaving any residue and is also pleasantly cooling.

Treat yourself to such a wellness treatment for your feet every day – that way you’ll get through the summer in good shape. If you are on your feet all day, however, you must not forget another important detail: comfortable shoes.
