Grease bag

Definition

Gruetzbeutel is a general term used in the vernacular to describe a sebaceous gland cyst. The type of sebaceous gland cyst is not described in detail by the term groats bag. In medical terminology, groat sacs are also called atheroma.

There are so-called epidermoid cysts and trichilemmal cysts, which differ in their localization and structure. Atheroma sacs often occur without a specific cause and usually do not cause any symptoms. A groin pouch is a benign enlargement of a sebaceous gland, resulting in an enlarged cavity. In the case of an epidermoid cyst, the sebaceous gland duct is blocked, so that further growth of sebaceous gland cells against this blocked duct results in a cyst. In the case of a trichilemmal cyst, excessive keratinization of the uppermost skin layer is at the forefront of the development

Causes of a grout bag

Frequently, grotty bags occur without a recognizable cause. In principle, they can affect any person and are benign. Only very rarely malignant sebaceous gland ulcers develop from grotto bags.

The so-called trichilemmal cysts of the scalp usually develop without cause, i.e. idiopathically. Very rarely, the increased occurrence of groats sacks on the scalp is associated with genetic defects. Sacral sacs, which occur on the rest of the body, are divided into primary and secondary sebaceous gland cysts according to their origin.

Primary sebaceous gland cysts also develop without a recognizable cause. They usually occur sporadically and can basically affect everyone. Secondary sebaceous gland cysts develop on the basis of another previous illness or injury.

The most common cause is acne. It leads to congested sebaceous glands, which are mainly located in the face, back and the V-shaped breast area. A blocked sebaceous duct of the sebaceous gland eventually leads to the formation of a grotto pouch.

In acne, various disease mechanisms lead to this disturbed sebaceous gland function. On the one hand there is an excessive sebum production of the skin, on the other hand there is an increased production of horny lambs. As a result, the sebaceous glands easily become clogged. Furthermore, the bacterial colonization of the skin also plays an important role. In acne there is an excess of bacteria on the skin, which can lead to inflammation of the grotto sacs.
