Groin Swelling: Symptoms, Complaints, Signs

The following symptoms and complaints may occur together with groin swelling:

Leading symptom

  • Groin swelling

Associated symptoms

  • Pain
  • Increase in the swelling of the groin, for example, when coughing.

Caveat.

  • For non-descended testis (undescended testis), therapy should ideally begin after the sixth month of life and be completed by the first year of life!
  • Basically, if enlarged lymph nodes in the inguinal region (groin region) are suspected, other lymph node stations of typical body regions (cervical, nuchal, supraclavicular, axillary, etc.) should be examined.
  • If a femoral hernia (femoral hernia; femoral hernia; thigh hernia) is suspected, an immediate medical evaluation should be performed because of the risk of strangulation (strangulation of an organ or part of an organ, for example, the intestine).

Warning signs (red flags)

  • Acute onset of pain → think: incarcerated hernia (immediate admission required!).
  • Increase in swelling on coughing → think of: Hernia inguinalis (inguinal hernia, inguinal hernia) or great saphenavarize (varice (varicose vein) of the great saphenous vein (great rose vein)).
