Heart Muscle Inflammation (Myocarditis): Therapy

General measures

  • Inpatient admission!
  • Bed rest or sparing is required during myocarditis!
  • After myocarditis is required for at least three months of sparing – during this time also no sports may be performed.
  • Nicotine restriction (refrain from tobacco use).
  • Alcohol restriction (abstaining from alcohol)
  • Review of permanent medication due topossible effect on the existing disease.
  • Avoidance of environmental exposures/intoxications:
    • Alcohol
    • Arsenic
    • Cocaine
    • Lithium

Conventional non-surgical therapy methods

  • Intensive medical therapy may be required

Vaccinations

The following vaccinations are advised, as infection can often lead to worsening of the present disease:

  • Flu vaccination
  • Pneumococcal vaccination
