Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of cardialgia (heart pain).

Family History

  • What is the general health of your family members?
  • Is there a frequent occurrence of heart disease in your family?

Social history

  • What is your profession?
  • Is there any evidence of psychosocial stress or strain due to your family situation?

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • How long has the pain been present? Has the pain changed? Become stronger?
  • Where exactly is the pain localized? Does the pain radiate out? (e.g. neck, arms)
  • What is the character of the pain? Sharp, dull, etc.?
    • Do you have pain that constricts the chest?* .
  • When does the pain occur? Are you dependent on external factors such as diet, stress, weather?
  • Is the pain dependent on breathing?
  • Do you have shortness of breath?*
  • Does the pain intensify with exertion/movement or does it get better then?
  • Do any other symptoms occur besides the heart pain/chest pain* ?
  • Have you had any recent injuries?

Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.

  • Have you lost body weight?
  • Has your appetite changed?
  • Do you use drugs? If so, what drugs and how often per day or per week?

Self history incl. medication history.

  • Pre-existing conditions (heart disease)

  • Medication history
