Heart pain with atrial fibrillation

Atrial fibrillation can lead to symptoms such as a feeling of pressure on the chest or pain in the chest area. These symptoms may be particularly noticeable in patients who experience atrial fibrillation as a seizure (paroxysmal atrial fibrillation). The heart pain can then occur relatively suddenly.

The most important differential diagnosis here is heart attack. This is often accompanied by pain or pressure in the chest area, heavy sweating, nausea and sudden shortness of breath. The distinction between a heart attack and a sudden episode of atrial fibrillation is therefore by no means always easy. For this reason, a very prompt medical consultation should be made for these symptoms. The combination of an ECG and the determination of certain blood values allows a statement to be made as to whether it is a case of heart pain in the context of a heart attack or atrial fibrillation.

Anxiety-induced agitation in atrial fibrillation

Anxiety, anxiety and inner restlessness can also occur during atrial fibrillation. Again, these symptoms are more common in patients suffering from seizure-like atrial fibrillation. The symptoms can then start suddenly, out of nowhere. Patients with permanent atrial fibrillation have these symptoms less frequently.

Dizziness in atrial fibrillation

Dizziness may be a symptom in patients with atrial fibrillation. It can occur both in atrial fibrillation with a heartbeat that is too fast and in those with a heartbeat that is too slow. The type of dizziness varies from patient to patient.

Dizziness is more common in patients with bradycardic atrial fibrillationBradyarrhythmia absoluta, i.e. atrial fibrillation with a heartbeat that is too slow. The slower the heart beats, the less blood is pumped to the rest of the body and the less oxygen is supplied to the brain. This can lead to dizziness and, if the heartbeat is very slow, even unconsciousness.

Sweating during atrial fibrillation

Sweating is a very unspecific symptom. It can occur in numerous diseases. It can also occur with atrial fibrillation. Especially patients with seizure-like atrial fibrillation can suddenly experience symptoms such as palpitations, sweating and shortness of breath.
