Heavy legs – what can I do?

Definition – What is meant by heavy legs?

The feeling of tired, heavy feeling, aching and often swollen legs is familiar to many. It can be harmless and often heavy legs are associated with minor or major vein problems. Heavy legs are a personal perception that is often accompanied by additional complaints/appearances. Affected people often state that their legs will fill up like lead, which will pull them down.

TreatmentTherapy

The treatment of the feeling of heaviness in the legs depends on the cause of the complaints. If there is a weakness of the veins, compression stockings and draining medication, the so-called water tablets, can help. If spider veins or varicose veins are cosmetically uncomfortable, they can be removed with sclerotherapy or vein stripping.

Tips for acidosis and sore muscles are heat treatments such as sauna and careful stretching. Heat treatments are contraindicated for vein weakness! In the case of PAVK, it is often necessary to take medications prescribed by a doctor, such as ASS, Clopidogrel or Marcumar.

You should also do regular walking exercises to promote the production of new blood vessels. With a pronounced PAVK, surgical measures may be necessary. Physiotherapy can often help with heavy legs and back pain.

If the cause is at the spinal cord level, a neurologist must be consulted to decide on appropriate therapy. There are different treatment strategies for the different causes of heavy legs. It is therefore important to find the right cause as part of a thorough diagnosis and to treat it specifically.

A lack of magnesium in the blood (hypomagnesemia) can lead to circulatory problems, numbness and tingling in the arms and legs, muscle cramps and many other complaints. Muscle cramps often occur in the legs, especially in the thighs or carts. If a lack of magnesium is responsible for the feeling of heaviness in the legs and possibly other symptoms, magnesium can definitely help to relieve the symptoms.
