Medical history (history of the patient) represents an important component in the diagnosis of hemorrhoids.
Family history
- Do you have a family history of common conditions associated with a-hemorrhoid (e.g., varicose veins/varicose veins, diverticulosis, hernia/vaginal hernia)?
Social history
- Do you work in an occupation where you are predominantly standing or sedentary?
Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).
- Have you noticed bright red blood on toilet paper? If yes, when did you first notice blood on the toilet paper or did you notice it more frequently?
- Do you have itching, pain, or other symptoms in the area of the anus?
- Do you have the sensation of incomplete evacuation after defecation?
Vegetative anamnesis including nutritional anamnesis.
- Are you overweight? Please tell us your body weight (in kg) and height (in cm).
- How regularly do you have bowel movements?
- What does the bowel movement look like? Shape, color, odor, admixtures?
- Is the stool hard?
- Do you suffer from constipation (constipation)?
- Do you drink enough? (at least 1.5 l daily?)
- Do you eat a balanced diet rich in fiber?
- Do you get enough exercise every day?
Self anamnesis incl. medication anamnesis
- Pre-existing conditions (connective tissue weakness e.g. diverticulosis, hernia).
