Himalayan Salt

Products

Himalayan salt is available from various suppliers as powder, granules, chunks and Himalayan bath salt. It is many times more expensive than ordinary table salt.

Structure and properties

Himalayan salt is a pink, unrefined rock salt that consists of over 98% sodium chloride (NaCl). In addition, it contains mineral impurities such as iron, which gives it its color. This mine is located about 300 meters above sea level and is 200 kilometers from the high Himalayan mountains. It is true that the mine is objectively located at the foothills of the Himalayas and can be assigned to them both geographically and geologically. However, the origin does not correspond to the ideas that Western consumers have of the Himalayas. For this reason, the name Himalayan salt is misleading in our view. Better would be, for example, “Pakistani salt” or “Khewra salt”.

Fields of application

Himalayan salt can be used to salt food and as bath salt. It is not healthier than normal salt and is not iodized. It is not suitable for treating diseases.

Dosage

Himalayan salt can be used like ordinary table salt. It should not be overdosed.
