In babies, as in children under 18 years of age, hives is mainly acute. It is a rather harmless disease which, in addition to the hives and itching, can also lead to fever and in extreme cases to shortness of breath. In babies, hives is a sign of a previous viral infection or food intolerance.

The symptoms can be alleviated by cooling the skin with cold compresses until the hives heals by itself within a few days. In case of complications such as shortness of breath or long duration of the disease, a doctor should be consulted.
