Home remedies | How do you treat a grain of barley?

Home remedies

There are some home remedies that can be used to speed up the healing process of a barley grain. The application of dry heat can promote the healing process of a barleycorn, as red light, for example, stimulates the blood circulation of the eye and causes the barleycorn to open more quickly. For this method, the closed eye should be irradiated about three times a day from a distance of about 40cm for about 10 minutes.

In contrast, moist heat, for example by warm cloths on the eye, should be avoided in any case. This favors the spread of the pathogens. It is important to clean the glued eye several times a day, taking care to use a compress or paper handkerchief, for example, which will not be used afterwards.

The incrustations can be carefully removed with warm water. If they are very stubborn, some baby shampoo or olive oil can also be used. Lukewarm fennel or chamomile tea can also be used for cleaning.

The used cloths should be thrown away after use to prevent the pathogens from spreading. Creams or tinctures with tea tree oil or juniper oil can also be helpful. Since a recurring barleycorn is an indication of a weakened immune system, a recurrence can be counteracted by supporting the immune system.

A balanced diet is the basis for a well-functioning immune system, as is sufficient drinking to flush toxins from the body. Furthermore, the administration of vitamin C and E can support the immune system. However, a doctor should be consulted before taking such preparations.

Homeopathy/Globules

Various homeopathic remedies can improve the symptoms of a barley grain. These are mainly administered in the form of pellets (globules). If the pain persists despite the treatment or even gets worse, a doctor should be consulted in any case. Arnica and belladonna can be given to suppress pus before it starts to form on the eyelid.

If pus has already collected and there is an acute inflammation, hepar sulfuris can be given to help the pus drain. Also Apis mellifica, Pulsatilla and Staphisagria can help with pre-existing pain and swelling. Recurring barley grains can be treated with Staphisagria or alternatively with sulfur.
