Homeopathic treatment | Cervical syndrome and dizziness

Homeopathic treatment

Homeopathy tries to remedy the problems of cervical spine syndrome and vertigo by stimulating the body’s self-healing powers. A prescription of homeopathic remedies has to be made taking into account various aspects. The accompanying circumstances, potential cause of the cervical spine syndrome, symptoms and other factors must be taken into account when planning the targeted therapy.

The right remedy must be selected based on the symptoms in particular. The most common symptom is a stiff neck. Common remedies for these symptoms are Ledum, Cimicifuga, Nux vomica, Bryonia and Arnica.

As a rule, the tension in the neck should disappear within a few days. If the symptoms and stiffness persist, a doctor must rule out a more serious cause. In particular if fainting fits, vomiting, severe dizziness and cardiac arrhythmia occur, a doctor should be consulted to initiate therapy.

Role of the first cervical vertebra (atlas) in a cervical syndrome with dizziness

The atlas is the first cervical vertebra. It is the vertebra closest to the skull and is involved in the formation of two joints: Atlantooccipital joint (joint between the atlas and the occipital bone) and atlantoaxial joint (joint between the atlas and the second cervical vertebra, the axis). These joints allow nodding and head shaking and are therefore very important for the mobility of the head.

The atlas also supports the weight of the skull and is therefore important for the even distribution of weight over the spine. If the atlas is blocked due to tension (often caused by poor posture) or accidents (whiplash), an upper cervical syndrome can occur. Patients often describe pulling pain that radiates into the head.

Due to a limited mobility of the atlas, it can press on nerve roots and surrounding vessels and thus cause dizziness. In most cases, dizziness in the upper cervical syndrome occurs due to jerky head movements or in stress situations. Blockages caused by incorrect posture can be skilfully resolved by a doctor, chiropractor or osteopath. In most cases an immediate improvement of the dizziness and other cervical spine symptoms such as headaches is noticeable after the treatment.
