Homeopathic medicines
The following homeopathic remedies can be considered for a less stormy course (as opposed to a flu-like infection):
- Bryonia (bryony)
- Sticta pulmonaria (lung lichen)
- Corallium rubrum (precious coral)
- Rumex (Curly dock)
- Drosera (Sundew)
- Hyoscyamus (henbane)
- Senega (Senega root)
- Spongia (bath sponge)
Bryonia (bryony)
Typical dosage of Bryonia (fence beet) for cough: Tablets D6
- Dry, painful irritable cough with stinging in the chest
- Dry mucous membranes and a thirst for cold water
- Worse through movement, deep breathing, talking and when entering warm rooms
- Improvement by resting and by holding the chest while coughing
Sticta pulmonaria (lung lichen)
Typical dosage of Sticta pulmonaria (pulmonary lichen) for cough: drops D6
- Many infections start in the nasopharynx and then migrate down to the bronchi
- Little mucus is produced, which is also difficult to cough up: Dry mucous membranes
- Dry, barking and agonizing cough with little sputum
- General feeling of exhaustion
- Aggravation at night and by cold air
Corallium rubrum (precious coral)

- Rapidly following, small coughing fits triggered by a stimulus in the posterior nasopharynx
- Nose blocked, secretion runs backwards into the throat
- Worse at night and very sensitive to cold air
- Better in a warm room
Rumex (Curly dock)
General dosage of Rumex (Krauser Ampfer) for cough: drops D6 to D12
- Tormenting tickle cough (like from a feather in the larynx) which occurs in attacks
- Stinging pains in the chest cause the coughing stimulus to be suppressed
- Very sensitive to cold air
- Worse at night and in the early morning hours and at the transition from warm to cold (Bryonia worse from cold to warm)
