Homeopathy for gout

The repertoire of homeopathy for a gout attack includes many different remedies. The homeopathic remedy Ledum is often used for acute severe gout pain and also has a cleansing effect against irritating substances in the body. In addition to gout, it is also used for insect bites and animal bites and is applied with the potency D6 or D12 in the acute application with five globules up to three times a day.

Acidum benzoicum is a homeopathic agent which has a regulating function on the uric acid level of the body. This way it protects the body against acidosis and reduces pain and swelling. The application is recommended with the potencies D6 or D12 with the intake of three globules twice a day.

Medication for a gout attack

Various medications can be used for an acute attack of gout. These include above all painkillers from the group of non-steroidal anti-rheumatic drugs (NSAIDs), such as diclofenac or ibuprofen. Diclofenac can also be applied to the painful joint as Voltaren ointment.

Alternatively, glucocorticoids such as prednisolone can be used. In severe forms of gout attacks, the two groups of drugs are also often combined, together with acid protection for the stomach. Colchicine is used less frequently and only when there is no response to these drugs. This drug may only be used in small doses due to its numerous side effects.

Gout attack in the hand

An attack of gout in the hand is not one of the most common localizations of gout, but it is extremely unpleasant and stressful for the affected person. It causes severe pain, which often occurs either in a base joint of the fingers, for example the thumb, or in a joint of the carpus. The difficulty of the gout attack in the hand is that the affected joint should be spared as much as possible and therefore the hand should be immobilized. This also only refers to the acute attack of gout, but often proves to be a great challenge for the affected person. You can find more information on this in our article “Gout finger“.
