A steam bath can also have a soothing effect on babies and free the respiratory tract. However, essential oils are prohibited because of the danger of allergies. Also, the steam must never be too hot to not burn the baby’s respiratory tract.

It is better to stay in the bathroom while the hot shower is running. A completely natural remedy for colds is breast milk. It contains protective antibodies of the mother and so one or two drops of breast milk can be given into each nostril of the cold baby while breastfeeding.

After breastfeeding, when the baby can handle a bottle, lime blossom tea and elderberry blossom tea are suitable for reducing fever. Among the vapors, onion vapors have proven particularly effective. Here you can simply pack a finely chopped onion in a small bag and hang it over the baby’s bed to help the baby breathe easier while sleeping due to the essential vapors of the onion.

If a cough also plagues the baby, walks in the fresh air are often very soothing. In the apartment, the humidity can be increased, for example, with wet towels over the heating or with humidifiers specially created for this purpose. Cool air helps with acute coughing attacks and walking to an open window or the refrigerator helps the coughing infant to overcome the attack.

It is important to make sure that the baby is cuddly and warm and does not freeze. Honey is always forbidden for colds in the first year of life, as it can contain bacteria that are not dangerous for adults, but can cause serious illnesses in babies. Toddlers with colds are usually very grumpy and the parents are often helpless against it.

Nasal sprays could provide relief, but are often only suitable for older children. A camomile steam bath can provide relief for small children with colds. Simply boil a camomile tea in a pot and then place it under a large towel with the toddler and let the steam breathe in.

Toddlers can easily get scared under the towel alone, but together with mom it is always half as bad. In addition, hot chamomile vapors are not harmful to the caregiver. It should always be ensured that the hot pot does not cause burns.

The room in which the infant is staying should always have a high humidity during the cold season. To do this, simply place a shallow bowl of water on the heater or hang wet towels in the room. A blocked nose can be freed from mucus by rinsing it with salt water.

Simply mix salt with lukewarm water and drip it into the nose with a pipette. Afterwards the toddler should blow his or her nose strongly. The secretion and also some of the viruses are washed away from the mucous membranes and the infant can breathe better.

The nose should always be well-creamed with a mild cream in case of colds. Penaten® cream is very well suited, because it has a thicker consistency and is not wiped away the first time you use a handkerchief. It also has a soothing effect on the sore skin.

To reduce fever, which often accompanies a cold in small children, calf nappies with curd cheese are helpful. To do this, spread curd on a sheet (a tea towel is of course also possible) and then wrap the towel around the calves with the curd-coated side down. After some time the cloth with the curd can be replaced.

Baths in 37 degree warm water also lower the fever. If the water is warmer, the circulation of the toddler is too much strained. A very vitamin-rich diet supports the child’s body in becoming healthy.

Especially lemon and lots of fresh fruit and vegetables should now be served with the meal. A toddler can also drink tea made from onions, but ginger tea is often too spicy for the little ones. Onion tea, given in the early stages of a cold, can prevent the disease.

Hot milk with honey helps against the cold and also tastes very good. Only the infusion of warm alcoholic beverages should be avoided in any case. Warm alcohol is a well-known household remedy in the fight of adults against the cold, but this household remedy must not be used with a small child.
