How can I recognize this myself?

The pelvic obliquity is often an accidental finding and therefore not always obvious. In most cases this is only noticed during the visit to the doctor. There are also patients who feel a certain imbalance when standing or walking.

To check this easily and quickly, you can consult a second person. 1st test For the first test, stand with your back to the other person. Now the second person has to feel both iliac crests.

While you are standing, the second person will kneel behind you. The view should be at the height of the lumbar spine. Then both palms are placed flat on the sides of your waist.

Once this is done, the palms of your hands slowly move down. Directly below the waist a firm, bony structure should be palpated. Seen from the back to the front, this structure runs like a wide arch.

Now both sides are compared. The fingers are taken as orientation points and compared with each other. The thumb is well suited for this.

When the palms are down, the two iliac crests are grasped with the palm of the hand. Only the thumb remains above the edge. Both thumbs are compared and it is judged whether both are at the same height.

The iliac crests are located approximately at the level of the middle of the lumbar spine. Since every person has different body proportions, the procedure is based approximately on this. Ideally, both iliac crests are at the same height.

This test is not always easy to carry out, since a certain body awareness is required. 2nd test There is another test that is not tested directly on the pelvis, but may indicate a pelvic obliquity. Here both legs are compared with each other.

In the case of a pelvic obliquity, there may be a difference in leg length which in turn may lead to an ISG blockage. Here both legs do not end at the same height. Since the leg is directly connected to the pelvis by the hip joint, a leg length difference can result.

A second person is also involved in this case. Lie on your back and make sure that you lie straight. Bend your legs and lift your bottom. In this way you can ensure that your pelvis and legs are in their usual position.

Put your bottom down again and then stretch your legs loosely. These are then held together by the second person. It will be oriented according to the inner ankles of both legs.

If the inner ankles are at the same height, then both legs also end at the same height. If this is not the case, there might be a difference in leg length. A difference of a few centimeters can be present in many people without causing problems. If both tests are abnormal, a visit to the doctor is the next step. Although these tests are suitable for self-diagnosis, they are still too objective and do not replace a visit to a doctor.
