How dangerous is a boil on the head?

Small, uncomplicated boils on the body are not dangerous in most cases. However, if a boil occurs on the head, the exact location of the boil determines whether the skin appearance must be classified as dangerous or not. In general one can assume that every boil that appears above the upper lip is dangerous. A boil that forms below the upper lip, however, is usually harmless. (see complications)
