How long does an inflammation of the labial frenulum last?

The duration of an inflammation of the labial frenulum depends on the cause. However, the improvement should occur after a few days or after about two weeks, respectively, healing should occur. After a piercing

When piercing in the labial frenulum, the injury of the mucous membrane can cause inflammation with swelling, redness and pain. Furthermore the thin skin of the frenulum can tear and cause additional pain. In most cases, however, the wound heals quickly.

A piercing, however, if it becomes inflamed, can transfer this inflammation to surrounding structures. So it can come for example to a transfer to the gums. If the piercing suppurates, a doctor should be consulted.

This can prescribe antibiotics, so that the bacterial infection does not spread and can heal. In general it should be discussed with the doctor whether the piercing should be removed in case of inflammation. To prevent complications like an inflammation after the piercing, the labial frenulum should be cleaned with bacteria-killing mouthwashes after eating and drinking. Because directly after the piercing the mucous membrane is irritated, one should avoid to eat acidic food, so that it is not irritated additionally and still gets inflamed.
