How long does laryngitis last?

Laryngitis usually occurs several times, and prevention is not possible. The problems caused by laryngitis in children usually get better during the day and become more severe again at night. The duration of the disease depends on how severe the inflammation is and how quickly treatment is started.

The actual inflammation will subside after one week with appropriate treatment, but the cough can continue for one or two weeks longer. If there is still no improvement after one week, the doctor must clarify whether another disease is the cause of the symptoms. Laryngeal inflammation in children must be treated in any case, otherwise there is a high risk that the inflammation of the laryngeal mucosa will become chronic. In chronic laryngitis, the permanently inflamed cells can degenerate and develop into a precancerous stage or carcinoma.
