How long sick | Operation of a Baker cyst

How long sick

In the first week of a Baker cyst removal, the main focus is on immobilising the affected leg. For this purpose the leg is usually plastered. After one week, the patient slowly begins to put weight on the leg again.

In the following weeks, care is taken to protect and mobilise the leg in a targeted manner. This is often followed by rehabilitation, which often involves physiotherapy. The entire follow-up treatment of a removed Baker cyst can take 3-4 weeks.

Outpatient possible?

The arthroscopic removal of the Baker cyst is usually performed on an outpatient basis. In order to generally differentiate between outpatient and inpatient treatment, the size and the respective risks must be weighed up. In addition, any previously known wound healing disorders and other pre-existing conditions are taken into account in the decision. However, in the case of Baker cysts without complications, surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis.
