How long unable to work | Bimalleolar ankle fracture treatment

How long unable to work

The incapacity to work after an ankle fracture naturally depends on the profession to be performed. Depending on the stress on the joint at work, a sick note is issued for the first two healing phases, i.e. six weeks. If the joint is not subjected to great stress at work, a sick note for the first phase, i.e. up to two weeks, is sufficient.

OP

A bimalleolar ankle fracture is usually treated surgically. The most common procedure here is to insert screws and wires to bring the bone parts back into the correct position and allow them to grow together here. Once the bone has completely healed, the foreign bodies are removed again, which usually happens after one year.

Weber B Fracture

In medicine, ankle fractures are classified in the so-called “Weber” classification. In the Weber-A injury, the outer ankle is broken, but the ligaments are uninjured. In the Weber-B fracture, the ankle fracture is exactly at the level of the ligament adhesion, which may also be injured.

In the case of Weber-C, the ligament adhesion is always affected. If the inner ankle is also broken, the bimalleolar ankle fracture discussed here is referred to as a bimalleolar ankle fracture. The causes of Weber’s fractures are usually severe twist injuries in sports or falls from a height.

Only Weber-A and Weber-B can heal conservatively, i.e. without surgery. However, as soon as the ligament is also affected, surgery is indicated.
