How painful is that? | Labia correction

How painful is that?

The painfulness of the procedure depends on the individual perception of pain and the type of correction. Immediately after a labia reduction, there is usually a burning and pressing sensation in the area of the operation, which can sometimes persist even if painkillers are taken. However, these symptoms usually last only about one day and can be compared to the pain of a cystitis.

Duration of the operation

The duration of a labia correction depends heavily on the type of correction. The most common is a reduction of the labia. Depending on how much tissue is to be removed during labia reduction, the duration of the operation also changes. As a rule, the procedure takes between 30 – 60 minutes. A vaginal tightening or constriction takes between 2 and 3 hours and is normally always performed as an in-patient procedure.

Duration of sick leave

The duration of the sick leave depends on the procedure performed, complications that have occurred and your personal condition. After a labiaplasty, you can usually return to work after 2 days if you have been working predominantly in a sitting position. In standing jobs you should refrain from working for a few days longer. If complications or severe pain occur, your doctor will give you a longer period of sick leave.

Duration of the entire healing process

The healing of the labia correction also depends on the specific procedure that was performed. In addition, each person not only has an individual pain sensation, but also the wound healing abilities can vary greatly. In case of a labia reduction, you should avoid friction and special stress for the first 6 weeks.

Therefore, sexual intercourse, chlorinated water, the use of tampons and most sports are not recommended. You should avoid sunlight exposure for half a year. After this period, you should generally no longer be subject to any restrictions. The healing process should therefore be completely finished after about 6 months.
