How should one dose Livocab® eye drops?

Livocab® eye drops can already be used in children from the age of one year. According to the manufacturers, the dosage that is also taken by adolescents and adults applies to them. For example, in the case of hay fever, one drop can be put into each eye twice a day. The maximum recommended dose is one drop per eye up to four times a day. However, Livocab® eye drops have not been tested for children under one year of age, so that no dosage information can be given here.

How expensive are Livocab® eye drops?

Depending on the dosage and size of the package, Livocab® eye drops are available for prices between five and twenty euros. The eye drops are pharmacy-obligatory and can be bought therefore only in pharmacies. Livocab® eye drops can also be purchased in online shops via online pharmacies. In addition, the eye drops are available without prescription, so no prescription from a doctor is necessary to buy Livocab® eye drops. In most cases, however, the non-prescription also means that the costs for the eye drops are not covered by health insurance companies and private health insurances.

Livocab® eye drops in pregnancy and lactation

There are no sufficient studies on humans for the use of Livocab® eye drops during pregnancy. No dangerous effects for the unborn or breastfed child have been discovered in animal experiments, but there are no official studies showing that the use of Livocab® eye drops in pregnancy and lactation is safe. In the breastfeeding period, it has been shown that about 0.3% of the levocabastine dose given to the eye is found in the saliva and breast milk of the woman. Therefore, a risk to a breastfed child cannot be excluded. The use of levocabastine during breastfeeding is therefore not recommended.

Alternatives to Livocab® eye drops

There are many different preparations on the market for the application of eye drops against hay fever. Some of the products are used for pure soothing of the eyes plagued by the allergy. These include Hylo-Care® eye drops, Vividrin® eye drops and Bepanthen® eye drops.

Allergodil® akut is also effective against itching, as it contains the active ingredient azelastine. This prevents histamine from reaching the mucous membranes of the eye. Other antihistaminic eye drops include Cromo-ratiopharm® eye drops.
