Hyperinsulinism: Test and Diagnosis

1st order laboratory parameters – obligatory laboratory tests.

  • Fasting insulin [Homa index: see “Fasting insulin” below]
  • C-peptide (part of proinsulin; indicator of beta cell function/insulin-producing cells in the islets of Langerhans of the pancreas (pancreas); decreased levels: including diabetes mellitus, starvation; increased levels: including insulinoma, metabolic syndrome, renal function impairment).
  • Fasting glucose (fasting blood glucose).
  • Blood glucose daily profile
  • HbA1c value (long-term blood glucose value)

Laboratory parameters 2nd order – depending on the results of the history, physical examination and the obligatory laboratory parameters – for differential diagnostic clarification.
