Hypermenorrhea: Therapy

General measures

  • Review of permanent medication due topossible effect on existing disease.

Conventional non-surgical therapy methods

If the cause of hypermenorrhea (excessive menstrual bleeding) is uterus myomatosus (benign neoplasm of the woman originating from the muscles (myoma) of the uterus (womb)), the following therapy has become very important in recent years:

  • Focused ultrasound (MR-HIFU) of fibroids (benign tumor of the uterus) – MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) guided focused ultrasound therapy (MRgFUS) (synonym: MR-HIFU = Magnetic Resonance High Intensity Focused Ultrasound) is a more recent treatment option for fibroids that is becoming increasingly important because it provides therapy with the following options: it is outpatient, has few side effects, does not require surgery, does not require anesthesia, and is gentle. For more information, see “Focused ultrasound (MR-HIFU) of fibroids“.

Regular control examinations

  • Regular medical checkups

Nutritional medicine

  • Nutritional counseling based on nutritional analysis
  • Nutritional recommendations according to a mixed diet taking into account the disease at hand. This means, among other things:
    • Daily total of 5 servings of fresh vegetables and fruits (≥ 400 g; 3 servings of vegetables and 2 servings of fruits).
    • Once or twice a week fresh sea fish, i.e. fatty marine fish (omega-3 fatty acids) such as salmon, herring, mackerel.
    • High-fiber diet (whole grains, vegetables).
  • Observance of the following special dietary recommendations:
    • Diet rich in:
      • Trace elements (iron)
  • Selection of appropriate food based on the nutritional analysis
  • See also under “Therapy with micronutrients (vital substances)” – if necessary, taking a suitable dietary supplement.
