Ibuprofen 400

General information

Ibuprofen is offered in a dosage of 400mg per tablet and is therefore called “Ibuprofen 400” on the pack. The effective strength 400mg/tablet is not available on prescription (over-the-counter). Nevertheless, the physician should be consulted if you are taking it for a longer period of time.

Fields of application

Ibuprofen is used for pain relief and anti-inflammatory effects:

  • Acute inflammation of the joints (also with attacks of gout),
  • For chronic joint inflammation (especially for so-called rheumatoid joint inflammation (chronic polyarthritis))
  • For inflammatory-rheumatic diseases of the spine,
  • For inflammatory soft-tissue rheumatic diseases and for painful swelling and inflammation after injuries.

Ibuprofen has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic effects. All these symptoms can occur when you have a cold. Ibuprofen can therefore be used for colds.

However, it only combats the symptoms and not the disease itself. So if you are taking ibuprofen when you have a cold, you will feel better but you will not get better faster. The general dosage recommendations also apply in case of a cold.

In addition, when combining ibuprofen with other cold medicines, care must be taken to ensure that they do not already contain an analgesic of any kind. The combination of several painkillers could lead to an overdose. Caution is therefore advised when additionally taking so-called combined preparations, which usually contain an analgesic, caffeine and vitamins.

Due to its analgesic properties, ibuprofen can be taken for sore throats. The general dosage recommendations apply. Often, however, lozenges, tea with honey and a thick scarf can help without the side effects of ibuprofen.

If the pain becomes very severe, a small dosage of 200 mg for adults and 100 mg for children may be sufficient. Ibuprofen is an antipyretic drug. Ibuprofen is very suitable for adults.

Depending on the severity of the fever, the exact dose can be adjusted individually. However, the recommendations for the individual and maximum daily dose should not be exceeded. For children, paracetamol is also suitable in addition to ibuprofen.

It also reduces fever and has fewer side effects for children than ibuprofen. Ibuprofen can provide good relief from pain associated with cystitis. Of course this is a purely symptomatic therapy.

The actual cause of the cystitis is therefore not combated. However, this is not always necessary, as the latest studies have shown. Cystitis is caused by bacteria.

Therefore one thinks intuitively of an antibiotic as medicine of the first choice. In many cases, however, it is already enough to treat the symptoms, such as pain and the urge to urinate. Because even without antibiotics, 2/3 of those affected quickly become healthy again.

And that without the risks of antibiotic therapy. Of course Ibuprofen can be taken also additionally to an antibiotic. However, if fever or other serious symptoms occur, a doctor should be consulted. As always, the exact dose of ibuprofen can be adjusted individually, but the single and daily dose should not be exceeded.
