Ibutilide was commercially available as an infusion solution (Corvert). It has been approved in many countries since 1997. It was discontinued in 2018.
Structure
Ibutilide (C20H36N2O3S, Mr = 384.6 g/mol) is present as a racemate and ibutilide fumarate, a white powder soluble in water.
Effects
Ibutilide (ATC C01BD05) has antiarrhythmic properties. The effects are due to prolongation of the action potential.
Indications
For the treatment of arrhythmias associated with atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter for rapid conversion to sinus rhythm.
Dosage
According to the SmPC. The drug is administered as an intravenous infusion.
