Improve liver values

Behind the increase is often a fatty liver caused by incorrect nutrition and alcohol abuse, so that a change to a low-fat diet and the reduction of alcohol consumption often already causes an improvement in liver values. The regular intake of certain drugs, which are preferably metabolized and broken down via the liver, can lead to an increase in liver values in the long term. These include, for example, many painkillers and also some antibiotics.

These may have to be discontinued after medical clarification. Furthermore, chronic stress can also lead to an increase in liver values: Under stress, the body produces an increased amount of the stress hormone cortisol, which in the long term can also lead to fatty degeneration of the liver, since it reduces the formation of fat-breaking enzymes in the liver cells. A reduction in stress in general can therefore also help to improve elevated liver values.

MPU

Behind the abbreviation MPU is the so-called “medical psychological examination”, which is carried out to assess driving suitability or fitness to drive in road traffic (popularly known as the “idiot test”). This test – which has been carried out in the Federal Republic of Germany since 1954 – is carried out at assessment centers for driving aptitude in conspicuous persons in order to reduce the risk of traffic accidents on the roads.Mental, psychological and physical fitness to drive is tested, the duration of the examination is between 3 and 4 hours. The medical part of the testing is based on the examination of drug or alcohol abuse by means of medical interviews, physical examinations and a blood sample with subsequent laboratory chemical determination of certain relevant parameters, such as the liver values gGT, GOT, GPT and the alcohol parameters CDT (Carbohydrate-Deficient-Transferrin) and EtG (Etylglucuronide).

To complete the MPU successfully, the liver (and especially the alcohol) values must not be elevated. The medical-psychological examination serves as the decisive basis for the decision on whether to withdraw or reissue a driver’s license in road traffic.
