Inflammation anus

General

The part of the body commonly known as the anus is the outlet of the intestine. A number of muscles and nerves ensure correct defecation. The skin of the anus is relatively sensitive, which is why dermatological problems can often occur at this point.

If the skin of the anus is inflamed, unpleasant symptoms occur which have very different causes and therefore require different therapies. Typical for an inflammation in this area is a redness as well as itching, burning or even weeping of the skin. In most cases, an inflamed anus is not a serious disease and can be treated with simple therapies in a few days or weeks.

In rare cases, however, an inflamed anus can also mean the presence of a disease that requires long-term treatment or even surgery. In addition to hemorrhoids, anal fissures and anal fistulas can also occur, which can cause a large number of different complaints and should be taken seriously. A visit to a doctor can clarify which individual reason is responsible for the complaints.

In most cases, a look at the inflamed area is sufficient to determine the cause of the complaints. If the reason for the inflammation is diagnosed, a therapy can be initiated. The individual duration until the disease has healed depends on many factors and has to be clarified individually with the treating physician.

Symptoms

The symptoms of an inflamed anus can generally be very different. This mainly depends on the disease causing it and its severity. In most cases, it is a dermatological problem, as the skin on the anus is sensitive and is usually very irritated there.

In particular, reddening of the skin is common when the anus is inflamed. Depending on how advanced the inflammation is and how badly the skin is damaged, the skin may also become defective and blisters or abrasions may appear. In addition, itching and burning or even weeping of the affected area often occurs.

However, an inflamed anus can also be an indication of other diseases. Especially when bleeding and a foreign body sensation in the anal region occurs, it may be a symptom of hemorrhoids. If bleeding occurs, a visit to a doctor is strongly recommended to confirm the diagnosis, to rule out serious diseases and to initiate a suitable therapy.

Another disease that can cause problems in the anus is the so-called anal fistula. This is an inflammation with an accompanying abscess formation of the mucous membrane in the anal area. It also leads to the formation of a duct near the anus from which fluid usually escapes.

During the abscess formation, the disease is usually characterized by considerable pain. An anal fissure, also known as an anal tear, is a painful tearing of the skin on the anus. Particularly severe pain and a burning sensation during bowel movements are typical symptoms of an anal fissure. Blood in the stool can also occur.
