Improvement of symptoms

Therapy recommendations

  • Symptomatic therapy:
    • Analgesics (painkillers), e.g., acetaminophen or ibuprofen (due toheadache and pain in the limbs).
    • If necessary, decongestant nasal drops or sprays; up to four times a day; maximum 7 d.
    • If necessary, antitussives (“cough suppressants” in irritable cough to improve night sleep); maximum 14 d; see under cough / drug therapy.
  • See also under “Further therapy“.

Phytotherapeutics

There is insufficient study basis for essential oil inhalation. Note: Essential oils should not be used in young children because of the risk of laryngospasm (vocal spasm).
