Insidon®

Definition

The drug Insidon® is a drug from the group of psychotropic drugs. Insidon® is a drug name, the active ingredient is opipramol. Insidon® is prescribed in particular for anxiety disorders and somatoform disorders (these are diseases in which no cause for certain physical symptoms can be found and where psychosocial factors play an important role).

Mode of action of Insidon

The exact mode of action of Opipramol is currently still unclear, but it can be described as a mood-lightening, anxiety-relieving (anxiolytic) agent. Insidon® interferes with numerous regulatory circuits in the central nervous system. These include the serotonin, noradrenalin, dopamine, acetylcholine and histamine systems.

Income information

Insidon® is available as a tablet with 50mg opipramol. The dose of Insidon® is adjusted according to the disturbance pattern. In total a maximum dose of 300mg per day must not be exceeded.

If the excretory function of the kidney is restricted, the dose may have to be reduced to prevent the drug from accumulating too much. Insidon® mainly has a calming effect at the beginning of the intake. After two weeks of regular use, a mood-lifting effect is added.

It is therefore important to take the drug regularly, as its effect can only be assessed after a few weeks. In contrast to some other centrally acting, calming drugs, taking Insidon® does not lead to addiction. However, abrupt discontinuation of a prolonged intake of Insidon® can have the opposite effect, with an increased arousal of the patient. The dose of Insidon® should therefore be slowly reduced and the drug should be discontinued.
