Insoles | Therapy of a hallux rigidus

Insoles

Orthopedic aids such as insoles for hallux rigidus are used particularly frequently. The right footwear is particularly important to distribute the load on the damaged joint correctly and thus prevent the condition from worsening. The shoes should fit the shape of the foot and provide a good, stable hold so that malpositions are not encouraged.

In the case of a hallux rigidus, the front part of the shoe can be stiffened so that the rolling motion does not cause the patient any pain and the joint is protected. In addition, special insoles offer the possibility of relieving the pressure on the big toe by being reinforced underneath it and raising the joint. Special rubber insoles can be attached to the outside of the big toe and worn in the shoe without any problems.

They absorb shocks and support the stability of the joint. Insoles are also prescribed after partial stiffening of the metatarsophalangeal joint of the big toe to immobilize it and redistribute the load. They have a plantar flap which is located under the big toe and supports it. The insoles are specially made according to a footprint and are aligned in such a way that they can develop their full effect and significantly relieve the patient’s discomfort.
