Instructions

As already indicated, it is important to create a calm and relaxing atmosphere. The patient lies on a massage table with undressed upper part of the body, relaxed, with the head resting in the breathing window of the table. The arms and hands also lie relaxed on the sides of the body.

The treating therapist stands at the side of the couch. First the upper body is rubbed extensively with St. John’s wort oil, then the treatment begins. Different techniques alternate, which are described in detail below.

1.) StretchingWhen stretching, the lumbar spine lies between the index and middle finger of the massage hand. The other hand lies across it.

With this grip you now stroke gently up to the coccyx. There the hands are slowly lifted off. The stroke is now repeated several times in the same way, but each time higher towards the cervical spine.

2.) The pincer gripThe pincer grip is also started at the level of the lumbar spine. The hands lie next to the spine, with the palms facing each other.

From this basic position, the left hand is pulled about 10 cm towards the buttocks and the right hand 10 cm towards the head. The pincer grip is also repeated several times, each time slightly further in the direction of the head. 3.)

The massageThe massage also follows the same principle from bottom to top. The fingertips of both hands point to the patient’s head. For the massage itself only the index and middle fingers are used.

With these the therapist performs circular movements, right and left of the spine. The work is done from the outside to the inside. 4.) Tissue paperAt the end of the massage, tissue paper is placed on the still well-oiled back. This serves to keep the warmth created during the massage a little longer to provide additional relaxation.

Price/Costs

The Breuss massage belongs to the natural healing methods or in the vernacular to the relaxing massages and is therefore not a service of the legal or private health insurances. Therefore, the patient usually has to bear the costs of the treatment himself. These can vary depending on the physiotherapeutic institution and the duration of treatment. Usually the initial treatment is somewhat more expensive, since the initial consultation with the therapist also takes place there.

However, it is always worthwhile for patients to apply to their health insurance company or to find out about subsidies for homeopathic treatments in general, as some health insurance companies cover the costs of these treatments annually to a certain extent. Nevertheless, as a patient, you usually have to pay in advance and, if necessary, have the costs reimbursed. A normal session for a Breuss massage costs between 35-60€.
