Interaction

Anticoagulants: Celebrex® should not be given at the same time as anticoagulants or preparations of the same class of drugs (diclofenac / indometacin / piroxicam /Ibuprofen). In particular, when Marcumar® is administered at the same time, it should be taken into account that the blood-thinning effect of Marcumar® is increased. The effect of antihypertensive drugs (ACE inhibitors, beta blockers, diuretics) can be weakened.

A combination of Celebrex® and ibuprofen is not recommended. Both drugs belong to the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, whereby Celebrex® belongs to the subgroup of selective COX2 inhibitors. It is generally not recommended to take two drugs from this group of drugs, as they have similar effects and their use does not promise increased efficacy.

If the efficacy is not sufficient, it is better to discuss with the treating physician whether an increase in dose is an option. If two drugs from the NSAID group are taken, it also increases the risk of potential side effects. According to the World Health Organization, there are 3 levels of pain treatment (WHO level scheme).

Level 1 is for the treatment of mild pain. Painkillers such as ibuprofen, Celebrex®, paracetamol or metamizole are used here. As a rule, however, these are not combined with each other.

A combination therapy takes place at level 2, for the treatment of moderate to severe pain. In this case, a combination therapy of level 1 drugs (e.g. ibuprofen /Celebrex) with low-potency opioids is recommended. If a therapy with Celebrex is not sufficient, there are two possibilities: One changes the drug, i.e. tries another drug from level 1, such as metamizole (Novalgin), paracetamol or ibuprofen. Or you can combine Celebrex® with a weak opioid. Both measures are best taken after consulting a doctor.

Contraindication

You must not take Celebrex® if you:

  • Are or become pregnant (see: Medication during pregnancy)
  • Breastfeeding(See: Medication during breastfeeding)
  • Have ever had an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients in Celebrex® capsules
  • Have already once had an allergic reaction to a drug from the drug group “sulfonamides” (used as antibiotics for cystitis, among other things). – allergic reactions such as skin rashes, swelling, itching or shortness of breath have occurred after taking Aspirin® or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen
  • Suffer from inflammatory bowel diseases (e.g. Crohn’s disease)
  • Have a stomach and duodenal ulcer
  • Have severe liver and kidney dysfunction
  • Have a very severe heart failure (decompensated heart failure)

Celebrex® and alcohol – is that compatible?

As with many other medications, Celebrex® should be taken in moderation with regular tablets. If alcohol is consumed in higher quantities and Celebrex® is taken at the same time, this increases the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding, liver damage and cardiovascular problems. Other possible side effects of Celebrex® can also be aggravated by alcohol consumption.

It is therefore recommended to consume alcohol at a very moderate level if you take Celebrex® regularly. In principle, however, in individual cases the attending physician should always be consulted again on whether there are other aspects that speak against alcohol consumption. For example, the use of other medications or certain concomitant diseases.
