Interactions | Pentalong®

Interactions

When taking other medications in addition to Pentalong®, it must be noted that the effect of the medication may be intensified. This applies, for example, to the simultaneous intake of beta blockers, calcium channel blockers, diuretics, ACE inhibitors, phosphodiesterase inhibitors, certain antidepressants and neuroleptics, as well as alcohol consumption. Pentalong® also weakens the effect of heparin preparations. In contrast, preparations from the ergot alkaloid group (e.g. dihydroergotamine) have an increased effect on blood pressure when taken with Pentalong®.

Contraindications

Pentalong® must not be used in cases of allergy/tolerance to the active ingredient, acute cardiovascular failure, shock, heart attack, very low blood pressure (systolic value <90mmHg), as well as parallel intake of phosphodiesterase inhibitors for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (e.g. sildenafil, vardenafil, tadalafil), as this can lead to a marked drop in blood pressure. In other specific circumstances, the physician must carefully check whether it is safe to take Pentalong®. For example, in cases of increased intracranial pressure and numerous heart diseases (inflammation of the heart muscle, narrowing of the heart valves, thickening of the heart muscle, pronounced weakness of the heart muscle, accumulation of fluid in the pericardium).

Application in pregnancy and lactation

The drug should not be taken during pregnancy and lactation as there is not enough information available to date on whether its use is safe during this period.

Application for children and adolescents

There is currently insufficient knowledge about the safety of Pentalong® in children and young people. Therefore, the drug can only be used in young people after a thorough examination of its necessity.

Warnings

After taking Pentalong® the ability to react may be limited. Therefore, extreme caution is required when participating in traffic or operating machinery. This is especially true at the beginning of treatment, when the dose is increased and in connection with alcohol consumption. The drug is not suitable for the treatment of an acute attack of angina pectoris, nor for the treatment of an acute heart attack. Furthermore, Pentalong® contains lactose (milk sugar) to which persons with corresponding intolerance may have an allergic reaction.
