Interactions | Stilnox

Interactions

If other drugs are taken at the same time as Stilnox® therapy, undesirable interactions may occur. For example, the effect of Stilnox® may be intensified if other sleeping pills, painkillers (e.g. opioids/opioids), antidepressants, antiepileptics or sedatives (tranquilizers) are taken at the same time. The same applies to the antibiotic ciprofloxacin.

Alcohol can also intensify the effect of the drug, which is why it must not be taken with alcohol. In contrast to it some medicaments, like e.g. the antibiotic Rifampicin increase the dismantling of Stilnox® in the body, why it comes then to a decrease of the effectiveness. Drugs that slow down the metabolism of Stilnox® in the body lead to an increase in the drug’s effectiveness.

This applies, for example, to grapefruit juice, macrolide antibiotics, certain antifungals and cimetidine. Stilnox® also mutually reinforces the efficacy of many other drugs. For example, the effect of muscle relaxants (drugs for muscle relaxation) is increased when Stilnox® is used.

Fitness to drive

Since Stilnox® is metabolized and broken down at different rates depending on the patient, active participation in road traffic must be avoided for at least eight hours after ingestion. During this time, no machines should be operated or other activities requiring a high level of concentration should be carried out. Due to the remaining amount of the drug in the blood, the ability to react during this time is limited.
