Definition

The Musculi interspinales are short, paired muscles of the back. They are part of the medial tract of the erector spinae muscle (back extensor).

Function

The interspinous processes stabilize the spinal column and, as part of the eretor spinae muscle (back extensor), straighten the spinal column.
