Intestinal Sanitation (F.X. Mayr)

Intestinal rehabilitation (F.X. Mayr) (synonyms: F.X. Mayr; Franz Xaver Mayr cure; Franz Xaver Mayr therapy; F.X. Mayr diet; F.X. Mayr therapy; F.X. -Mayr colon cleansing; colon cleansing according to F.X. Mayr; fasting cure according to F.X. Mayr; Mayr therapy; Mayr cure; milk-semmel cure, Mayr medicine) after the Austrian physician Franz Xaver Mayr (1875-1965) is a cure based on the healing principles of sparing, cleansing and training. Mayr assumed that the diseases of his patients were due to a dysfunction of the digestive system. Chronic digestive weakness, he said, leads to autointoxication (self-poisoning of the organism), caused by fermentation and putrefaction of food. Intestinal rehabilitation according to Mayr is intended to counteract this “slagging” and is carried out as part of a course of treatment under medical supervision.

Indications (areas of application)

The procedure

Mayr intestinal rehabilitation can be performed both on an outpatient and inpatient basis. The duration of the cure is determined individually by the attending physician and can last 3-4 weeks. The beginning is a several-day pre-cure, where it already comes to a reduction of food intake. Subsequently, in the sense of the protection (recovery and regeneration of the intestine) with the tea fasting is begun. In the further course the milk diet, the extended milk diet and a mild derivative diet follow. The individual diets can also be determined individually. The cleansing is purification, detoxification, deacidification of the whole organism and rehabilitation of its self-purification and detoxification function. It is carried out through a saline sprinkling of the intestines, enemas and alkaline therapy. The training principle serves for chewing and insalivation training in the sense of the Mayr`schen eating rules. In the sense of the modern Mayr medicine also individually important and necessary nutrients and vital materials are substituted. The different diets include the following aspects:

  • Healing and tea fasting according to Mayr – The patient takes herbal teas with some honey and grapefruit juice. Vegetable broth, drinking and mild mineral water are also part of the fasting, which should only be done on an inpatient basis. After a few days, the tea fast is transferred to the milk diet.
  • Milk diet according to Mayr – During this diet, the patient takes 3-4 day old course melts in combination with milk. Depending on tolerance, it is cow, soy, almond, goat or sheep’s milk. Yogurt can also be used as an alternative to milk. The rolls must not contain whole wheat flour. The special feature of this diet is the way the food is taken: small pieces of bread are chewed intensively and then swallowed with some milk/yogurt. Extended milk diet according to Mayr – Other foods are allowed: cottage cheese, vitamin, tofu or oil/quark spreads, cottage cheese, Gervais, oat or rice gruel, beef or turkey ham, trout fillet, as well as base soups (eg potato vegetable soups).
  • Monotony in food selection as another gentle factor should be strictly observed.
  • Mild derivative diet according to smoke – This is a gradual transition to a healthy, normal mixed diet. It is based on the use of as gentle as possible on the digestive system, wholesome and at the same time biologically high-quality food. Soups, steamed vegetables, cereals, potato dishes, fresh herbs and lean meat and fish are served. Here, attention is paid to certain kitchen techniques and the acid-base balance of the organism.
  • Permanent diet – The permanent diet represents the optimized, permanent, healthy diet of the patient. It should be easily digestible, easily tolerated and versatile. Heavy, lavish and rich food should be avoided. In addition, late and frequent eating should be avoided.

Especially the milk diet is good to do in everyday life. The cure is not for weight loss, however, just the thorough chewing during the milk diet has a positive effect on overweight people who often eat hastily.
