Irritable Bladder (Urethral Syndrome): Symptoms, Complaints, Signs

The following symptoms and complaints may indicate urethral syndrome (irritable bladder):

In irritable bladder, the main symptom is urgency.

Leading symptoms

  • Pollakisuria – urge to urinate frequently without increased urination.
  • Nocturia – urination at night
  • Tenesmus – painful spastic urge to urinate
  • Pain in the urethra and/or pelvic area; intermittent or chronic (miction-independent/independent of urination).
  • Dyspareunia (pain during sexual intercourse; often occurs in this context).

Note: The diagnosis of urethral syndrome may only be made if other clinical pictures have been excluded by careful diagnosis!
