Is BoxaGrippal only available on prescription?

BoxaGrippal® does not require a prescription. It can therefore be purchased without a doctor’s prescription from a pharmacy or ordered from online pharmacies. The reason for this is the low dosage of the respective active ingredients.

Drugs with higher dosages of the same active ingredients are available only on prescription in Germany. Although BoxaGrippal® can also be purchased without a prior visit to a doctor, a doctor should be consulted if symptoms are unusually severe or long-lasting. Especially in older people, a cold can quickly lead to a significant worsening of the condition or even be mistaken for pneumonia.

Price of BoxaGrippal®

In contrast to prescription drugs, the legislator has not fixed the price of non-prescription drugs. This means that each pharmacy sets the price of BoxaGrippal® itself and prices differ between pharmacies. On average, 10 BoxaGrippal® tablets cost 5-10€, 20 of which cost between 7 and 15€. Online pharmacies often offer drugs at lower prices. However, due to the high delivery costs, an online purchase is usually only worthwhile if several medicines are purchased at the same time.

Miscellaneous

Taking Boxagrippal® can lead to temporary circulatory weakness or impaired vision. Driving a vehicle or industrial machinery while taking Boxagrippal® may therefore be temporarily restricted. In the event of an overdose, a doctor should be consulted immediately.

If there are signs of stomach or intestinal bleeding such as bright red or black stools or bloody vomiting, or signs of an allergic reaction such as shortness of breath or wheals, a doctor or emergency medical services should be informed immediately, as both side effects can lead to life-threatening conditions. Patients with damaged kidneys should only take Boxagrippal® after careful consultation with their doctor, as kidney damage can be further increased by taking too much ibuprofen and concomitant diseases such as diabetes mellitus can further accelerate the deterioration of kidney function.
