Is it allowed to use Bepanthen® Wound and Healing Ointment for babies (especially face and bottom)?

Bepanthen® Wound and Healing Ointment may be used on babies, especially on the face and bottom. Before the first application a test for tolerance should be carried out. Simply spread a small amount of the healing ointment on an unproblematic area such as the back of the hand, let it absorb and wait a day.

If no allergic symptoms occur, the ointment can be safely applied anywhere on the baby. The areas of application for babies are the same as for adults. Bepanthen® can be used for general skin care, care of abrasions, scratches and irritated areas.

It can also be used on areas irritated by diapers, in the intimate, genital and anal areas. On the face it can be applied to the skin and lips, as well as the mucous membranes of the nose and eyes. Of course it should be avoided that the baby eats or swallows the ointment. If side effects occur, the cream should be washed off immediately and, depending on the severity of the side effects, a paediatrician should be consulted. Indications of side effects are redness, swelling and blisters on the skin.

Bepanthen® Wound and healing ointment for the intimate area

The Bepanthen® wound and healing ointment is also suitable for the intimate area. If the Bepanthen® wound ointment has never been used before, it is recommended to try it on a less sensitive area first, such as the arm, in order to rule out a previously unknown allergy to the ointment. If no signs of allergy appear after one day, it can also be used in the intimate, genital and anal areas.

According to the package insert, however, it should be noted that Bepanthen® contains white vaseline. This can reduce the tensile strength of condoms containing latex. The contraceptive protection and protection against sexually transmitted diseases could therefore be reduced.

Bepanthen® wound and healing ointment on the lips

The skin on our lips is made up of the same building blocks as the rest of our body. Therefore, Bepanthen® Wound and Healing Ointment can also be applied to the lips. Indications are dry, chapped or split lips.

Even chapped, bleeding areas can be treated with Bepanthen® Wound and Healing Ointment. However, the ointment should not be applied in the mouth or on the gums, because a part of the ointment could accidentally be swallowed. This can cause stomach and intestinal pain, as the active ingredient dexpanthenol also acts in the intestines.

Is it allowed to use Bepanthen® wound and healing ointment for pimples?

Bepanthen® Wound and Healing Ointment can also be used on spots. In some cases, however, it may be useful to use the antiseptic wound cream of Bepanthen® instead of the conventional wound and healing ointment, as pimples are a frequent entry point for bacteria into the body. The antiseptic cream therefore not only cares for the skin around the pimple, but also kills bacteria that may be around and in the pimple. This can reduce the risk of pimple inflammation and consequently the formation of scars.
