Is this a cash benefit?

The phototherapy of the newborn in case of icterus is one of the services provided by the health insurance. Of course, the costs for both the inpatient admission and the phototherapy itself are covered by the health insurance. Depending on the bed capacity of the clinic, the mother of the infant can usually also be admitted as an accompanying person.

In the case of phototherapy for adults, the therapy is often also covered by the health insurance company. However, it is not uncommon for an application to be made in advance by the treating family doctor or dermatologist. Before starting phototherapy, it should therefore be clarified with the health insurance company whether the services are covered.

It is particularly difficult if you want to apply for your own therapy device for treatment at home. These are often expensive, but in many cases they can be provided on loan. This is usually possible as a service covered by the health insurance.
