Kinesio-Tapering | Biceps femoris

Kinesio-Tapering

Taping of muscles is appropriate for various types of injury. For example, in the case of a pulled muscle in the thigh area, the biceps femoris muscle can be taped. The patient should stand and bend forward with the upper body to tense the biceps femoris muscle.

To tap the biceps femoris muscle effectively, the first strip is applied from the back of the back of the popliteal fossa to the buttocks. It is recommended to stretch the knee and turn the upper body slightly to the opposite side. This strip is applied without too much tension.

The second strip should be a double strip, i.e. two thin strips with a common base. This can be easily achieved by simply cutting the strip in the longitudinal axis through the middle, but leaving a common end. The base of the double strip is glued to the lower pole of the muscle, i.e. a few centimetres above the hollow of the knee, and the two strips are attached around the muscle belly under medium tension. If possible the two loose ends should be glued together. This taping can improve the function of the muscle and thus provide (pain) relief.

Function

The function of the biceps femoris (two-headed thigh muscle) consists of bending and external rotation of the lower leg in the knee joint. Furthermore, it causes a stretching and adduction of the thigh in the hip joint.
