While a knee brace is advisable for sports with fast, sudden movements, this is less clear when jogging. However, the stability-enhancing factor also plays an important role here. Sophisticated models are available on the market that contain supporting struts or joints and thus provide special protection.

The warming effect of the support also has a preventive role. The entire joint apparatus is less susceptible to injuries when warmed up. Similar to a compression stocking, the elastic bandage nestles tightly against the skin and thus leads to increased blood circulation in the knee joint structures.

The better the muscles are supplied with oxygen, the better they can perform. However, the decisive disadvantage of the support is its relieving effect. On the one hand, it effectively prevents injuries; on the other hand, injuries can occur all the more easily if it is not worn.

The reason for this is its inhibitory effect on muscle growth. The build-up of muscles strengthens the joint apparatus and also has a supporting function. In this sense, the knee support should be used as an aid primarily for existing joint weaknesses.

The knee bandage for arthrosis

Arthrosis in the knee joint is called gonarthrosis. The increasing displacement of the hyaline cartilage is often accompanied by severe pain and restricted mobility. Although the wear and tear of the hinge joint cannot be reversed, further progress can be delayed.

Therapy to alleviate the symptoms of osteoarthritis is based on various approaches. In this context, light physical activity on a healthy scale is recommended. Jumps that compress the joint and long downhill walks like hiking should be avoided.

Muscular development and good blood circulation effectively counteract the wear and tear process. Wearing a knee bandage is recommended as a supporting measure. It serves the purpose of relieving the joint surfaces and provides stability in all directions.

The knee support is prescribed by a doctor. A large part of the costs is covered by the statutory health insurance. Alternatively, the use of knee orthoses can be considered in consultation with the doctor.
