Knee tapes outside/inside | Taping the knee

Knee tapes outside/inside

If there are complaints in the outer area of the knee joint, this area can also be taped in isolation to relieve and stabilize it. Three strips of Kinesio-Tape are required for this purpose – two long and one shorter strip. The first long strip of tape is placed on the outside of the leg slightly below the knee joint when the leg is slightly bent and should reach almost to the hip.

The second long strip is applied in the same way and should be applied about halfway over the first strip. The shorter strip is finally stuck horizontally over the outer area of the knee joint. This strip must not be so long that its two ends touch the inside of the knee joint.

If there are complaints on the inside of the knee joint, a slightly different adhesive technique is used. Again, three tape strips are required – one very long, one medium-long and one short strip. The longest strip is placed on the inside of the leg slightly below the knee joint and is stuck diagonally across the front of the thigh to the hip.

Bend the knee slightly. The second strip is placed under the kneecap and then glued along the inside of the thigh towards the groin. Do not pull the tape while gluing. The shorter strip of tape is finally stuck horizontally over the inside of the knee joint. This strip must not be so long that its two ends touch the outside of the knee joint.

Knees tapen for jogging

Some athletes suffer from knee pain when jogging. Kinesio tapes can help to relieve the pain and relieve the knee joint.Various bonding techniques can be used. Techniques that stabilize the kneecap are advantageous, for example the Y-shaped tape that is applied above the kneecap.

The two legs of the Y are then guided along the right and left side of the kneecap respectively, so that they meet again below the kneecap. If an even stronger stabilization is desired, two more tape strips can be applied horizontally above and below the patella. In the case of complaints that mainly affect the point of attachment of the patella tendon to the tibia, it can also help to apply two kinesiotape strips crosswise to the point of attachment of the tendon.
