Lactose Intolerance: Diagnostic Tests

Optional medical device diagnostics – depending on the results of the medical history, physical examination, laboratory diagnostics, etc. – for differential diagnostic clarification

  • Lactose H2 breath test* – on the day of the examination, a baseline value is first obtained from exhaled air. This is followed by the administration of 200 ml of a lactose solution, and then a breath sample is obtained regularly every 10 minutes to determine the concentration of H2 in exhaled air.The total duration of the examination is 3-4 hours.

  • H2 breath test due tosuspicion of fructose or sorbitol malabsorption.
  • Endoscopy and histology (fine tissue examination) – if chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, polyposis coli (occurrence of multiple (more than 100) colorectal adenomas), neoplasms (neoplasms) are suspected.

* Notes for performing the examination!Do not eat high-carbohydrate meals the day before the examination and prefer meals that are fiber-free. No eating or smoking should be done from 17:00 on the day before, and no drinks from 22:00!
