Lactose Intolerance: Medical History

Medical history (history of illness) represents an important component in the diagnosis of lactose intolerance (lactose intolerance).

Family history

  • Are there frequent diseases of the gastrointestinal tract in your family?

Social history

Current medical history/systemic history (somatic and psychological complaints).

  • Have you noticed symptoms such as increased flatulence and diarrhea?
  • Do you suffer from cramping abdominal pain?
  • When do these symptoms occur? In connection with the intake of medicines, food, etc.?
  • Do you feel chronically tired?
  • Do you suffer from headaches and aching limbs?
  • Do you suffer from concentration and sleep disorders?

Vegetative anamnesis incl. nutritional anamnesis.

  • Do you eat a balanced diet?
  • Do you eat/drink a lot of dairy products?

Self history incl. medication history.

Note!When looking for the trigger of food intolerance, keeping a food diary is helpful. Causative foods include: Dairy products, consensus milk, cheese, milk-containingfoods and drinks, and hidden sources of lactose (eg, ready meals, instant cappuchino, chocolate).
