Stem plant
Common lady’s mantle, from the rose family (Rosaceae), is native to the Northern Hemisphere and also to many countries.
Medicinal drug
Lady’s mantle herb (Alchemillae herba) is used as a medicinal herb. It consists of the whole or cut dried aerial parts of the plant collected at flowering time. The pharmacopoeia requires a minimum content of tannins.
Ingredients
Constituents include tannins (e.g., gallotannins, ellagitannins) and flavonoids.
Effects
Preparations from the leaves of lady’s mantle have astringent (astringent, tanning), antioxidant, and antimutagenic properties.
Indications for use
For symptomatic treatment of mild diarrhea. Especially in alternative medicine, the drugs are also popular for women’s disorders, for example, menstrual cramps, menopausal symptoms, discharge, abdominal discomfort, and before and after childbirth. However, scientific evidence for these applications has not yet been provided. The application also goes back to the theory of signatures.
Dosage
According to the directions for use. The tea is prepared infusion and taken three to five times a day.
Contraindications
Lady’s mantle tea is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity. Full precautions can be found in the directions for use.
