Lamisil® | Ointment against athlete’s foot

Lamisil®

The Lamisil® cream contains the active ingredient Terbinafine, which, like bifonazole, inhibits enzymes of fungi that are involved in stabilizing the cell membrane of fungi. This kills the fungal cells. Terbinafine has accordingly likewise a broad spectrum of activity and is effective in the treatment of athlete’s foot by dermatophytes, yeast fungi and molds.

Lamisil® is available in various preparations in pharmacies without a prescription, namely as cream, spray, gel and the special version Lamisil Once®, which only needs to be applied once to the toes and interdigits. Further treatment is then usually no longer necessary. The standard preparation Lamisil® cream is applied to the affected skin areas of athlete’s foot between the toes once a day for seven days.

For fungal infections on the sole of the foot, the treatment period is 4 weeks. The cream should not be used on children under 5 years of age, pregnant or breastfeeding women. Interactions with other medications are not yet known.

This preparation may also cause allergic reactions in the form of reddening of the skin, itching, etc. Ciclopoli Creme® contains the active ingredient Ciclopirox. Like bifonazole and terbinafine, this belongs to the broad-spectrum antimycotics, i.e. it is effective against various fungal species simultaneously.

Ciclopirox is particularly effective in the treatment of athlete’s foot by yeast fungi (Candida) and dermatophytes. The active ingredient impairs the function of the cell membrane of the fungus and thus leads to its death. Ciclopoli is available in pharmacies in different preparations.

The Ciclopoli nail polish for the treatment of nail fungus is available without a prescription, but the cream for the treatment of skin fungus is available only on prescription. The preparation is applied twice a day to the affected skin areas. It usually takes about two weeks until the skin changes subside.Thereafter, the treatment should be continued for one to two weeks to prevent a recurrence of the fungal infection. The cream should not be used in children under 6 years of age, during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. As with other athlete’s foot ointments, reddening of the skin, itching and other intolerance reactions may occur during the treatment, but these will subside with the end of the therapy.
