Lamisil®

General information

Lamisil® is the trade name for Terbinafine, a drug used in the treatment of fungal infections (mycoses). Terbinafine intervenes in the formation of the fungal membrane by inhibiting the production of an essential substance of the fungal membrane, ergosterol. Accordingly, Terbinafine has a fungicidal effect.

Lamisil® can be used locally (topically) in the form of cream, gel, spray, solution as well as orally (systemically) in the form of tablets. The main area of application is in particular athlete’s foot. Lamisil Creme® is used to treat various yeast and skin fungi, of which the athlete’s foot is the best known.

In this way it not only fights athlete’s foot, but also provides sufficient moisture and alleviates the symptoms of the fungus such as redness, itching, blisters and dandruff. The alcohol-free cream is especially suitable for irritated foot skin and rebuilds the natural skin barrier. After cleansing the feet with warm water and a mild soap, a small amount of cream is applied to the affected area and to the immediately surrounding areas.

In case of athlete’s foot between the toes, the cream is applied once a day for 7 days. It is important to adhere to the duration of application, because a quick relief of the symptoms does not mean that the fungus has been completely combated immediately. If an application is forgotten, the treatment should be continued as soon as possible.

In order to prevent further transmission of the athlete’s foot to other parts of the body, the hands should be washed thoroughly after using the cream. In very rare cases, allergic reactions of the skin occur after application due to an intolerance of the active ingredient. The affected area should then be cleaned with plenty of warm water and soap.

Lamisil Spray

Lamisil® in the form of spray is particularly suitable for people who are on the move a lot or for athletes. Tubes of cream are often squeezed or leak during transport. The spray is therefore easy to apply and cannot be pressed in.

The affected areas do not have to be touched and so the hands remain clean. A disinfection of the hands is therefore not necessary after the application. Another advantage of Lamisil Spray® is that it can also be used by elderly people who cannot easily reach their feet due to their restricted mobility.

As with the cream, in the case of athlete’s foot between the toes, the spray is sprayed only once a day for 7 days. Cleaning the feet with warm water and a mild soap is recommended before spraying the spray on. It is sprayed both on the affected area between the toes and on the surrounding areas. The spray is absorbed quickly so that socks and shoes can be put on immediately after application.
